Pompano Beach Mound

 







The Pompano Beach Mound, located at Indian Mound Park in Pompano Beach, Florida, in Broward County, is a 100-foot(30 m) wide, 7-foot (2.1 m) tall oval Tequesta burial mound.

One of 20 to 50 burial mounds erected by the Tequesta in central to southern Florida, it is the only surviving Indian burial mound in urban Broward County. Artifacts discovered near the mound suggest the associated village may have been in existence as late as 1763 CE. Ceramics from the site date from across the three periods of the Glades culture.

Leake Mounds

  Leake Mounds  is an important archaeological site in Bartow County, Georgia built and used by peoples of the Swift Creek Culture. The site is 2 miles (3.2 km) west of the well-known Etowah Mounds on the Etowah River. It predates that site by hundreds of years. Excavation of nearly 50,000 square feet (4,600 m 2 ) on the site showed that Leake Mounds was one of the most important Middle Woodland period site in this area from around 300 BCE to 650 CE. It was a center with ties throughout the Southeast and Midwest. It was abandoned about 650 CE. It was not occupied again for nearly nine hundred years, until about 1500, by different peoples near the end of the Mississippian culture period. Fort Walton Mound

  The  Fort Walton Mound  is an archaeological site located in present-day Fort Walton Beach, Florida, United States. The large platform mound was built about 850 CE by the Pensacola culture, a local form of the Mississippian culture. Because of its significance, the mound was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964. Still reduced by time, the massive mound is still 12 feet (3.7 m) high and 223 feet (68 m) wide at the base.
